The degree programme in Biomedical Engineering was inaugerated in 1998/1999 at NUI Galway in order to cater for the rapidly expanding healthcare and medical device companies which are clustered in the west of Ireland. The curriculum is interdisciplinary in scope and students take subjects in the Engineering, Medical and Science Faculties. The candidate will be expected to assume a leadership role in both the teaching and research aspects of some of the areas of biomechanics, bioinstrumentation, biomaterials, tissue engineering, biomedical manufacturing, and environmental services and medical implant and device design. Candidates should preferably hold a Ph.D degree in biomedical engineering, or another engineering discipline, with an established research record or equilavent industrial experience in biomedical engineering. |
